ExcludedUK Condemns ITV’s Decision to Feature Michael Fabricant on Celebrity Big Brother
ExcludedUK, representing the voices of over 3 million individuals and businesses who were denied financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic, expresses profound distress and disappointment over ITV’s decision to feature former Conservative MP Michael Fabricant on Celebrity Big Brother. In December 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Fabricant dismissed claims that the lack of government support led to suicides among the ExcludedUK community, stating that such claims had been “debunked.” This was met with widespread condemnation, as families and friends of those who tragically took their own lives attested to the devastating impact of financial exclusion. The inclusion of Fabricant in a high-profile entertainment programme not only disregards the pain and suffering of those affected but also appears to reward dismissive behaviour towards vulnerable communities.
